Nashville Wedding Photography – Brent & Tami

We are so excited to share Brent & Tami’s wedding! Not only was it the perfect weather last Saturday but we also worked with some of our favorite vendors in town. It was such a beautiful day!  The ceremony was held at Woodmont Christian Church in Green Hills and the ceremony was held at the Cannery Ballroom.  We’ve had so much fun following Tami’s bridal blog over the past year as she has planned her wedding & it was awesome to see all of her hard work finally come together. There were so many great moments throughout the day and it was seriously hard for us to narrow down these photos to a few (ok, a lot) of our favorites. Tami & Brent, hope you enjoy!

Nashville Wedding Photography – Gary & Caroline

A week ago today, Gary & Caroline were married.  It will definitely go down as one of the most memorable weddings we will ever photograph.  Last Saturday we showed up to Carnton Plantation only to realize that we would not be able to access it due to flooding.  The bride, her sister & mom were stuck on the plantation along with the make-up/hair girls.  Everyone else was on the outside, including the groom.  The main goal was getting everyone to safety, so we all went our separate ways & waited.

Here is a short video we made while sitting at the blocked entrance to Carnton Plantation. As you can see in the video, there were also tourist who had been visiting the plantation that day stuck on the other side of the rapids. This was the only access road in and out of the plantation. We added some cheesy, somber music for effect!

Garoline Wedding Flood from Phil Thornton on Vimeo.

We didn’t know if there would even be a wedding.  Around 4pm we got the call that the wedding had been moved to St. Paul’s in downtown Franklin.  We geared back up & headed out.  It was crazy outside & was raining so incredibly hard.  Downtown Franklin was already in the beginning stages of flooding.  However, the only goal in every one’s mind was to get this couple married!    All the vendors rallied together – the cakes made it there just fine, caterers arrived, the florist managed to gather some extra flowers since the original ones had been left at Carnton.  I (Mindy) didn’t know what to expect when I saw Caroline for the first time.  She had every right to be completely broken down but instead she met me with a big smile.   She was just happy to be getting married.  That set the tone for the rest of the night.  Everyone there was in great spirits.  It wasn’t the wedding they had envisioned for the past year but Gary & Caroline would be Garoline by the end of the night and that was all that mattered.  Below are some of our favorite images from the day.  We are looking forward to a very sunny “Day After” session with these two very soon!  Enjoy :)

Gary found this handkerchief sitting on the priest’s desk – couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Caroline working the phone, making sure all her guest new about the venue change.

This is why we love these guys so much, when a lot of brides would be in tears, Caroline was cracking us up and kept her sense of humor!

Caroline wore two pairs of shoes that night, one was pretty, one was waterproof.

There was no music during the reception, so friends jumped in to provide a little entertainment.  At one point the guest were singing and dancing to “All You Need is love” on the piano…it was perfect. Oh, and thank goodness for iPods!

  • LSS said: The couple (Garoline) and their families are amazing, and the guests were very blessed to witness something this special. Once in a lifetime experience. (05.11.10 @ 1:13 pm)
  • Caroline Garner Crump said: Mindy & Phil, what can we say. Gary & I sat in our hotel room in San Francisco last week looking at these photos on his teeny tiny Blackberry screen and I just bawled. Now we have your beautiful pictures to go along with our wonderful memories of that day. Of course I smiled when Mindy walked in the room where I was getting ready -- seeing you there made it seem real that our wedding was going to happen after all! In the picture where I'm re-applying make-up, I was trying hard not to cry because it was just then sinking in that everything was coming together... We've been all giddy thinking about your photos of our wedding since we first met you two back in November, and now we couldn't be happier with the photos so far, and cannot wait to see more! Thank you, thank you SO much. Xo (05.11.10 @ 1:14 pm)
  • Gail Johnson said: Loved, loved, loved the "sneak peek" photos~can't imagine they can get any better! We wouldn't have missed it for the world and were so delighted to share in such a beautiful, special occasion. Congratulations to Caroline, Gary and to everyone who pulled together to create such a memorable event. (05.11.10 @ 5:27 pm)
  • Rosemary said: These pictures are amazing! What an unforgettable wedding--and now we have pictures to document the little wedding that could (even in a flood)! (05.11.10 @ 10:40 pm)
  • John Garner (FOB) said: Phil and Mindy were absolutely fantastic. Somehow, they "circled" Franklin in a holding pattern till we came up with what had to be plan D or E, and, then, there they were snapping away so unobtrusively we hardly knew they were in the room, and, now, we have these incredible pictures to document Caroline and Gary's incredible wedding. The Harpeth River claimed much of what we had hoped for that day, but, as Phil and Mindy's pictures reveal, it did nothing to dampen the bride and groom's love for each other or the love of their friends for them. To quote Caroline, "The wedding I had was better than the wedding I planned." She spoke from the heart for all of us, I think. Thank you, Mindy and Phil. Thank you for your artistry and thank you for your professionalism. We could not have done it without you. (05.12.10 @ 7:40 am)
  • Wendy C. said: So happy that everything worked out for this couple and all of the vendors! What a horrible weekend! But from the looks of your photos, this couple kept their cool! Congrats! (05.12.10 @ 9:27 pm)
  • Sharon said: Incredible. Garoline will have an amazing story for their children and grandchildren. This, I believe is the best kind of wedding, one where love conquers all. I would like to meet this couple : ) (05.13.10 @ 11:15 am)
  • chris said: We followed along your crazy day on Twitter as it went down, it's great to see how happy the couple was despite all the setbacks. Oh, and I love that ring shot. {swipebox} ;-) (05.14.10 @ 12:04 pm)
  • Karen Edwards (MOG) said: Phil & Mindy - I have heard about you since Gary & Caroline first met with you last November. They were in awe of your artistry and felt a strong connection with ya'll from that very first day. That connection and your talent is so evident in the "sneak peek" of what is to come. Thanks for capturing that memorable day and the very essence of the couple we all fondly know as Garoline. Thanks so very much to another couple "Phindy." (05.25.10 @ 2:11 pm)
  • Holly said: These photos are gorgeous! I can't wait to see more. You really captured the spirit of what truly was (for all of us) a beautiful day! (05.26.10 @ 9:55 am)

Nashville Flood Relief Poster

As some of you may have heard, Nashville was hit very hard by flooding over the past week.  We have been in a state of shock, especially since our very own neighborhood was devastated.   Our own home was spared, but so many were not so lucky.  If you are out of town or just don’t know what to do to help out, we have found a great way to make a donation but also receive a sweet limited edition poster!  Click here to purchase your poster – it’s going to a great cause.

Nashville Baby Photography – Koda

A couple of weeks ago I photographed our brand new nephew, Koda.  Isn’t he sweet?  He is a pretty big deal in our family considering he is the first grandson after 4 nieces.  We’re definitely glad to have this little guy around and can’t wait to finally see what it is like to have a little boy in the family :)
