Key West Wedding Photography – Melorie & Art

Here are some shots from Melorie & Art’s amazing destination wedding earlier this month in Key West, Florida!  Let me start by saying this was without a doubt the hottest wedding in the history of weddings.  Not only was the wedding “hot” as Paris Hilton would say, it was HOT as in 100+ degree heat index and no coastal breeze!  It seriously felt like a sauna!  I remembering watching the weather station the night before and the little graphic for the next day was just the word “CRAZY”, bright red and flaming.  That was a very accurate forecast. Anyway, everyone was having so much fun we hardly noticed the heat.  The day was beautiful from beginning to end.  The couple had two ceremonies, one traditional Catholic ceremony in the most amazing old Spanish style church, and the other on a pier over the green blue waters of Key West.  After the ceremonies, there was dancing, fireworks and hand rolled cigars.  This trip to Key West was way too short, maybe next time we can play tourist and hang out a while.  So, without further blabbing, here are some of our favorite images:

Nashville Photography Art Project – The Milemarkers Project

A few months ago, one of my best friends, Bonnie, called and asked us to be apart of an art project she was putting together for the Aphasia Group at Vanderbilt.  I knew Bonnie’s Dad had suffered a stroke years back, but I had never heard of Aphasia.   APHASIA – a*pha*sia (uh-fay-zhuh) is an impairment of the ability to use or comprehend words, usually acquired as a result of a stroke or other brain injury.   Knowing how close this project was to Bonnie’s heart, we quickly said yes and I am so glad that we did.

Bonnie titled her project “The Milemarkers Project“.  Her goal was to document the recovery stories of individuals with Aphasia.  She asked individuals to identify an object that represented a significant achievement or turning point in their recovery process.  Phil and I got to photograph these individuals with their object.  Below are some of the images from our day with the patients.  Our day spent with them definitely put things in perspective.  You never really stop to think what life would be like if simple movements or speaking were taken away from you.  If you would like to see the project in it’s entirety please visit the downtown Nashville Public Library from September – October.  Also, please visit Art Makes Place for more info on other great projects in the Nashville area.

This is Domnique, who works with the Aphasia group.  Her milemarker was the Proclamation from the state of Tennessee, declaring June Aphasia Awareness Month.

Thanks again, Bonnie, for letting us be a part of such a special project.  We are looking forward to seeing it this fall!

Amber Lynn - This is great! I am a Photographer and my mother (who had 3 strokes) has aphasia. I love what you guys have done here. Public Awareness for Aphasia is something that is much needed. What a great project to work with!

Amber - Thank you for doing this, and for sharing the images; it’s a profound visual statement, and a wonderful commentary on the difference between “speech” and “communication”.

2Duce2 Videography - Wow! How amazing is this! such an incredible opportunity ;-)

Adrienne - Love it! Parents document children’s milestones growing up, but we forget that after we graduate and get married, there are so many achievements we should document, especially recoveries. Awesome job!

rita - A wonderful way to give of your talents! I’m proud of all of you!

chris - This is incredible, guys! What a great project to be involved with! We’ll definitely have to go check out the whole thing at the library!

Nashville Family Session – Simmons Family

A few months ago, we photographed some head shots for Adrienne…at the time she brought along her family and Phil and I fell in love with them, especially their little girl, Riley.   After a few rain checks on sessions this past spring, we were so excited to finally get the opportunity to do a family session with them a couple of weeks ago.  Seriously, this family knew how to work it…they were awesome.  Check out a few of our favorites!
