We are so happy for our past clients turned great friends, Matt & Chandra! They are expecting their little bundle of joy any day now (just like us!). We loved that we were able to capture this next chapter in their lives. Enjoy!

A couple weeks ago, I had the honor to photograph Marie for her maternity session. At one point, Marie looked at her husband, Mark, and said “this is our first family photo!”. I loved that! How fun to capture these two before the birth of their son, Otis. Enjoy a few of our favorites!

We recently had the honor to photograph our friends Kristyn & Matt! They needed some new photos for their business and we were happy to help. Here are a few images from our new favorite hidden spot in downtown Nashville.![]()

A few weeks ago I had the privilege to photograph Donna’s maternity session. As I am writing this post, she is in the hospital holding her brand new son, John Thomas! A huge congratulations to the Greek family on their new addition…we can’t wait to meet him! Enjoy![]()

We’ve known Holly for a few years (we are very loyal clients…she does our hair!) and we were so excited last year when she & Neal got engaged. Neal & Holly decided to have an intimate & private wedding. Ever since then we have been planning an “After Session” with them. On the day of the shoot, they opted out of getting back into their wedding attire and chose just to have a fun & casual shoot around Germantown. These two are stunning and we love how they turned out. Enjoy a few of our favorites![]()

If you are a bride-to-be and are looking for someone for hair/make-up, Holly is incredible. You can contact her here: hollybrownhair@yahoo.com
We enjoy photographing families & babies, especially in the midst of wedding season. It’s an awesome change of pace and we couldn’t ask for a cuter baby than Sophia. She’s gonna be a heart breaker…prettiest blue eyes I have ever seen! Enjoy![]()

Last month we had the privileged of photographing one of Nashville’s most talented wedding photography couples, Jonathon & Sharon Campbell. These two have become great friends & we had so much fun running around downtown Franklin with them for their session. Enjoy!

A couple of weeks ago I photographed our brand new nephew, Koda. Isn’t he sweet? He is a pretty big deal in our family considering he is the first grandson after 4 nieces. We’re definitely glad to have this little guy around and can’t wait to finally see what it is like to have a little boy in the family![]()

We love the Simmons Family, so we get excited anytime they call us up for a session. I photographed Adrienne’s maternity session last month and she was such a trooper seeing as she was due in a matter of weeks. You would have never known it..she was up for anything and looked stunning! Since our session, she has given birth to a beautiful baby girl, Robyn Alexandria. We can’t wait to meet her! Enjoy a few of our favorites![]()

Hope everyone is staying warm out there…we’ve been loving the snow but are anxiously awaiting Spring! Speaking of freezing cold weather, we are so excited to share Devan & Jesse’s “anytime” session. These two were in town last month for ImagingUSA and we were honored when they asked us if we could photograph them while they were in town
Devan has her own fantastic photography business, Devan Whitson Photography, out of Illinois. Despite the 20 degree weather, Devan & Jesse worked it! Enjoy a few of our favorites-

Sorry if the blog has been a little sporadic lately. We are still recovering and catching up from our Europe trip. And yes, don’t worry, Europe pictures are coming soon…we promise! In the meantime you can check out this lovely couple! Tami & Brent are friends with Amanda Williams (who’s wedding will be blogged soon!) and we are so glad we get to shoot their upcoming wedding too
We hit a ton of fun locations for their session. We had so much fun that we stayed pretty late into the night, risking injury for some cool night time road shots. Thanks Tami & Brent for being so willing and brave! After our shoot we grabbed a bite to eat on Broadway and had a great time discussing their wedding. Tami also has an awesome blog where you can read some fun insights on being a bride. Check it out at http://littlemisssouthern.blogspot.com/ Here are just a few of our favorites. Enjoy!

Leslye & Todd are one of the cutest couples we’ve ever had the opportunity to photograph. They were married in a private ceremony back in June and asked us to shoot a session to celebrate! After we booked our session, we learned that Todd is in the band, The Carter Administration, that Phil and I use to see religiously back when we were dating. We knew from that point on, this would be a super fun shoot and we’ve been dying to share these images since we took them.
We love when clients have cool & different ideas for shoots. Anytime we can incorporate hobbies or passions into a session, it automatically gives it a great personal touch. In Todd & Leslye’s case, it was reading & eating hot dogs. (Ok, if you know me, I definitely relate to one of these and it certainly isn’t the intellectual one) Needless to say we were beyond excited to shoot at a hot dog stand and then all around downtown Nashville. Enjoy a few (try a lot) of our favorites!

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to head out to Franklin to photograph this terrific trio. The show stealer in this session was, without a doubt, Hannah (sorry Linda & Scot!) This little girl is adorable! As we walked around shooting, Hannah discovered these 2 huge exhaust fans that were blasting out air. What does a kid do when they find such a thing? Stand in front of it and laugh of course! Luckily we were there to get some shots! Here are a few from their session, including a sequence with a little “behind the scenes” action. Notice Mindy’s hands reaching in to tickle a laugh out of Hannah on the second shot. We almost forgot to mention that Scott also happens to be the best small business accountant on the planet, you can check out his site here. Thanks again Linda, Scott & Hannah!
We have so much fun with “Day After” sessions. It is definitely a treat to get to spend hours with a bride & groom driving around to any location we want. On the wedding day, things can be a little rushed and we don’t always get to have the amount of time we would like to spend with the couple in cool & different locations. This is where this session comes in handy
David & Jessica were married last June, and a month after their wedding, we were able to head out into the country with these two. Jessica braved bug bites & a pasture in high heels as we trespassed on explored new fun locations. We also have to give props to David for sporting a tux in the heat. I guess the old saying is true, no pain no gain! To David & Jessica, thanks for being such good sports, hope you love the images!

Love the cute signs David & Jessica brought with them…they will include these in their “thank you” notes!

We had so much fun doing some headshots for Adrienne last week. She is beautiful and had some sass in her images which always helps! She also brought along her beautiful family, so of course we got her husband, Robert, to get in for a couple. They also have the cutest daughter we have ever seen so we are looking forward to photographing their family in April when it is a little prettier outside
Is anyone else tired of winter like we are??

Robert’s “The Rock” impression

A long time ago, we met a guy named Brian. A couple years later, Brian met Marie. Way before they were even engaged, Phil and I were secretly hoping they’d get married so we could shoot their wedding. We knew they’d do something super cool and of course they haven’t let us down. We cannot wait to shoot their East Nashville wedding next month. We are always looking for new, fun places to shoot and they are having their reception in an art gallery! Oh, it’ll be sweet! Anyhoo, back to their engagement session. Phil and I really love to make our engagement sessions about our client’s personalities. So before every session we always ask the couple “what do you guys like to do?”. In Brian & Marie’s case it was “play UNO” & “Swing!”. So there you have it…our inspiration behind these images. Enjoy![]()

Did we say November’ish? Psych! Of course these things never go according to plan, but we are excited to start 2009 with our new brand! Thornton-Photo is now (drum roll please …) Phindy Studios. Isn’t that a much prettier name? Along with launching our new brand, we have a brand-spankin’ new website and blog. (They’re awesome and major props to Phil for designing them. They are beautiful!
I could sit and look at them all day)
Some of you might be wondering: “Hey, why the change, I liked Thornton-Photo!” Well, it really was a culmination of several factors that made us decide to change the name and brand of our company. The first reason was that we like to consider our images and style to be unique and our name really did not reflect that. There are about a million “Thornton Photos” out there and we wanted to stand out! Another reason was that our domain name (thornton-photo.com) was not all we wanted it to be. Because of all of those other studios using similar names we had to adopt that dreaded dash (-) in our domain name which really just made things complicated for our visitors. We also felt like we have come a long way since we started this business all those years ago and we kind of “outgrew” our old brand. So, there it is, the reason our blog has been quiet for the last few months. Along with our new look we plan to make some fundamental improvements to our business, one of which is more blogging! With a swanky new blog like this how could we not?
Quick Tour: Okay, so you may notice a few new items here on the blog so let me point out some of them.
We know a post just isn’t complete without some killer photos for you guys to look at so this time we are including some new portraits we had made of us! And boy, are they AMAZING! Our good friend and super talented photographer Joy Marie took these almost 2 months ago for us but we were saving them for the new launch. Ironic as it may seem we both HATE getting our picture taken but like any great photographer, Joy made it a fun experience and we love how these turned out.
Side note: A very special thanks to all of our 2008 clients. You guys made it our best year yet! We already have some incredible clients to shoot in 2009 and can’t wait to see what else this year holds for us. Anyways, take a second to look around our new site and blog. Let us know what you think!
xoxo
Phil & Mindy (can you guess how we came up with Phindy?)

We know you guys love the purdy wedding pictures but today’s post is a little bit different! Here is a look at some portraits we just did for the super talented Zach Spencer. If you haven’t heard Zach’s music drop what you are doing and go check it out! He is a great guy and an awesome musician. We had a lot of fun in the freezing cold taking photos for his upcoming album. Here are just a few to check out, Mindy & I think the very last image should be his album cover but unfortunately he already has an illustration selected for that![]()

(Below: Mindy, Zach, Phil)

Tim & Jenn celebrated their 5 year wedding anniversary last Saturday. We shot their family portraits last fall, so we were super excited when they called and wanted to have us shoot them again to get some new fun images for this milestone. We had a blast shooting you guys and eating some Satco afterwards. Congratulations on being married 5 years!!

A few weeks ago we visited our neighbors, the Manors, to have a newborn session with their brand new baby boy, Enoch. It was fun to have a change of pace and break away from our wedding routine for a little bit. Enoch is precious and was such a good sport. Thank you, Elijah & Andrea, for having us in to capture such a special time in your family’s life. Here is our favorite from the day. Enjoy!

Seth & Laura were married on July 11th. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding in Waverly, TN at the Humphreys County Museum & Civil War Fort. Everyone was in good spirits and we got some great outdoor shots despite the extreme heat. Props to the guys who toughed it out in suits! All in all it was a great day and we couldn’t have asked for better sunlight to work with. Seth & Laura, it was truly an honor to photograph your wedding. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you guys. Enjoy this sneak peek!
Beautiful couple, beautiful light.

Cool ring shot on Laura’s grandmother’s window seal. (sorry that’s a ton of possessive apostrophes)

Laura and her sisters looking G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S![]()

Loved the groomsmen’s ties.

Can you believe this grooms cake?!? Yes, it’s a cake, not a real camera. It is by far the coolest we have ever seen and I’m sure ever will see.

Pretty dress details.

Love the flare in the first picture of Laura and her Dad.

Fabulous wedding cake by Billie’s Sugarworks. The orchids used on the cake were so pretty.

A couple of weeks ago we visited Laura in her hometown of Waverly,TN for her bridal portraits. We started at her grandmother’s house and grabbed a few shots in front of an old oak tree she played under as a child. Then we moved over to a really cool old shed her grandfather built. Once finished at the house we headed down to the Humphreys County Museum & Civil War Fort . This place was full of interesting Civil War antiques and was very cool (you’ll see more when we post their wedding shots.) Laura, as you can see has a knock out smile and such a great personality to go along with it! We had a lot of fun snapping the photos and swatting at mosquitoes!

Here are a few more shots of the lovely couple Stephen & Amanda. I posted one of these in a sneak peak a couple of posts back but here is the whole enchilada. We had a great time with this shoot. We started in the late afternoon and went on all the way until after 9pm! Our first location was Centennial Park then we drove downtown to the pedestrian bridge. Our last stop was in front of the Sommet Center to try some long exposure night photography. After our lengthy session we were all starving so we drove over to the new Five Guys burger place on Broadway (delicious). Looking forward to shooting their wedding in October!

Occasionally we get the opportunity to break out of the wedding/portrait mold and do something a little different. That is exactly what were able to do last week with local artist David Dewese. David was in need of some promotional images for his burgeoning solo efforts and we were happy to oblige. We scouted around town and ended up picking a few locations downtown in “the gultch” and on music row. We have a lot of fun with these types of sessions and can’t wait to do more. Take a look at a few of the results.

OK, OK, I know its probably a spoiler to put just one lonely image up from the whole session but I just couldn’t wait. I started messing around with an image from this shoot as soon as we got home. This is just a teaser and hopefully we will have more from this fun session up in the next day or two.
The location was the pedestrian bridge downtown, the place Stephen proposed. We normally don’t get to do nighttime sessions so I was really excited to see how these turned out. More details coming soon.

Lindsey was a brave bride-to-be. We shot her bridal portraits just 2 days before her wedding and she managed to pull it off looking amazing, relaxed and happy. I wish I had been that cool before my wedding
We all headed to Scarritt-Bennett and got some beautiful shots. We were lucky it was a pretty day because two days later there were tornado warnings everywhere and we ended up having to shoot most pictures inside. Some sneak peeks of the wedding will be posted soon. For now, enjoy Lindsey’s Bridal Portraits! Here are a few of our favorites:
So pretty…

Lindsey hates her “serious face” but we think she looks stunning…don’t you agree?

We met Robbie & Cathryn at Centennial Park for a pretty Spring (finally!) engagement session. The weather was absolutely perfect. We did a few pretty shots and then had some fun with Robbie & Cathryn’s football rivalry between UT & Alabama. Here are a few of our favorites:

Thanks for being such great sports…we can’t wait to shoot your wedding in June!
We were so excited when the Ward family asked us to shoot their family portraits. We headed down to Belle Meade and were lucky enough to have a beautiful fall day with plenty of leaves on the ground. Click here to view all of the pictures. Here are some of our favorites:

Couldn’t resist…couple more cute ones of Tim & Jenn
Love this one…
Mike and Samantha are getting married next month and we are so excited to shoot their wedding! They are such a great couple and couldn’t be more perfect together. I love how great Mike is with Samantha’s daughter, Kylee. She is so excited that they are getting married and will be the cutest flower girl. It’s so great seeing their new family come together.
We shot their engagement session at one of our favorite spots, the Factory, in Franklin. Click here to see the entire session. Here are some of our favorites-
Cute one of the couple on our favorite bench and a sweet family pict![]()

Cool doors
The Carpenter family came in town a couple weeks ago from Cabot, Arkansas and we decided to head out to Steeplechase to do some fall portraits. They haven’t had any real family portraits done since Isabel was born a few years ago, so it was time for some new ones! Click here to view all the pictures from our session.
Cute one of Alan & Deanna
Adorable Isabel. She just got a ton of hair cut off. I love her cute new bob.
Sweet Emma.
Love this one of Isabel blowing the petals off of the dandelions.
This one is my all-time favorite. I just love how sweet they are.
We are so excited to shoot Tony & Lindsey’s wedding next May. They are such a fun, cute couple. Not only are we excited to shoot their wedding, but we are also so excited because they just moved into our neighborhood. We love having them right down the street!
We went out to Belle Meade a couple of weekends ago to take some newspaper friendly shots and then they came over to our new studio to do some fun photo booth pictures for their save the date magnets. Click here to view all of their pictures!
Here are a handful of our favorites![]()

Sunday we headed out to meet Emil & Leslie for their engagement pics. They told us they found a really cool spot for the shoot so we didn’t really know what we were getting into. Man were they right, this place was awesome! It was pretty much a working farm with a plethora of animals including: cows, chickens, crazy African hens called “guineas” I think, a llama named Half-Tank, a ram with a head too big for its body, and an excited peacock. It was great. We had a lot of fun shooting this one. Here are a few shots, the top one is one of our favorites and the bottom one is a silly “American Gothic” homage. Thanks Emil & Leslie!

Here are a couple shots from Tabitha & Kyle’s engagement session. This rad couple drove all the way in from Memphis for the session and still somehow managed to make the whole day fun. We wondered around a bit downtown grabbing a few shots, and also went inside Nashville’s newish main public library to get some cool shots of them on tiny children’s furniture. “Big kids on a little couch” Just reminds me of Chris Farley in that movie, Tommy Boy. ANYWAY! Take a look at the pretty couple. Can’t wait to shoot this wedding in M-Town this summer.

Last weekend we took pictures of Kyla and Chloe (and Cameron in Kyla’s belly!) Phil and I can’t wait to meet our new neice next month!
A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of shooting a fun session at the Nashville Public Library with our good friends Nathaniel and Abby. It was a cold and wet day so we improvised and took it inside. It was so funny trying to be quiet enough for the library! We all kept cracking up. Hey, we pay taxes… who says its just for book reading? Check out their photo slideshow here!
Hi everyone! Check out these great pictures from the Chris, Kyla and Chloe portrait session at the Newsome Station Mill. We had a lot of fun getting these shots of the adorable Chloe. It was freezing outside but all three of them were troopers. We hope they love these pictures as much as we loved taking them. Click here to view a photo slideshow.
