Ken & Lindsey were recently interviewed about their wedding for the Tennessean. Click here or if you have today’s (Sunday) paper, you can read about it in the Life & Travel section. It’s titled “Proposal in paradise leads to Cajun wedding”. It’s a fun read and gives you a little behind the scenes look at their proposal and wedding. Enjoy!

Robin & Stephen were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Cheekwood last month. It literally rained all morning and then stopped just in time for the ceremony. We were so happy that they got the wedding they had dreamed and planned for! We have enjoyed working with both of them so much and they are truly some of the nicest clients we have ever had. Robin & Stephen, enjoy this sneak peek of your wedding and I hope you had a great honeymoon in France!

Kristin Carolan with Simply Stunning Events did a great job coordinating and keeping everything running smoothly. Here are some beautiful details from the day!

We are so excited to finally be able to share some from Lindsay’s (aka Angelina Jolie) bridal session. Lindsay and Chad were married last Saturday in a beautiful wedding that we will be sharing in the weeks to come. For now, enjoy some images from her session at a beautiful historic mansion in Murfreesboro. Enjoy!

Last week Ashley & Trey came into town from Arkansas for their engagement session. We couldn’t ask for a better couple to hang out with for the afternoon. They laugh a lot which makes our job so much fun! On top of that they are super smart. They are our “pharmacist” couple because they are both pharmacists. I know, we are not very creative with our nicknames. So, of course we quizzed them about what allergy medicine we should take since it’s that time of year! Anyways, we cannot wait for their January wedding with the fabulous Kristin Carolan of Simply Stunning Events. If their engagement session is any indication, it will be a very fun wedding
Enjoy!

Something is in the water! We had so much fun with Abby & Nathaniel for their maternity session. We went to Abby’s grandfather’s farm for some great outdoor shots. I LOVE the rusty shed we found. What you don’t see in the image is the huge cow that was watching us the entire time. Anyways, we can’t wait to meet their little boy, who has no name yet, but I know they have some great options ready. They are waiting to meet him themselves before he gets his name![]()

We are excited to finally be able to share some of our bridal session with Robin. She and Stephen were married last Saturday at Cheekwood. Robin is such a trooper, not only was it raining at her bridal session but it was also raining last Saturday. Both times she was totally calm and everything went off without a hitch. We will be sharing images from their wedding very soon, but until then enjoy a couple of images from our session…how pretty is she?!?

We were so excited when Ben & Alicia asked us to photograph a maternity session with them. Alicia is one of my best friends and it’s so fun seeing her go through her pregnancy
They are expecting their little boy, Henry, in July. We have a running joke that Henry will play with our unborn little boy, Harry, and they will speak with British accents. That wouldn’t be weird in Tennessee, would it? Anyways, we can’t wait to meet Henry in a couple of months, but until then here are a couple of images from our session last week. Enjoy!

Paul lives in Canada. Jennifer lives waaay up North, right below Canada. Jennifer’s family lives in Kentucky. No one is from Nashville, but we’re so glad they are deciding to bring all of their friends & family down here for a wedding/vacation and we get to be apart of it! Even though they live far away, we have already had a couple of chances to hang out and get to know them before their big day. They’re a super sweet couple and we are really looking forward to their wedding in July with the fantastic Mary Alice of A Delightful Day! Last month they made a trip down to take care of many wedding details, one being their engagement session. We had lots of fun, and even though they “said” they weren’t comfortable in front of the camera, I think they pretty much nailed it![]()

Last weekend Phil and I photographed a private birthday party for the owner of Olhausen Billiards, Donny Olhausen. Olhausen makes beautiful pool tables, some of which fill the entire 3rd floor of the Wildhorse Saloon where the party was held. Here are a couple fun images from the night…enjoy!

Great shot of Donny proudly standing next to his pool tables & another shot of the “surprise!” moment.

We had so much fun a couple of weeks ago photographing Ryan & Jessica’s engagement session in downtown Nashville. They are such a sweet couple and we are so excited to shoot their wedding next July. It will be held at the swanky new Hutton Hotel! We love shooting in new places
Anyways, here are a few of our favorites from their engagement session. Enjoy!

We got kicked out of Urban Outfitters for this first shot…it was worth it
Props to Jessica & Ryan for rockin’ it so well in one take!

So here is the big finale for Ken & Lindsey’s wedding…so sad to see it end! These guys were troopers and woke up early the day after their wedding to meet us in the French Quarter for a “day after” session. For those of you who do not know, a “day after” session is a session that happens after your wedding (pretty self explanatory). It can be the day after but some couples opt to do these weeks after their wedding. The great thing is we have more time to spend with the bride & groom than we normally do at a wedding, and it we also get to be a lot more creative! Anyways, we had a ton of fun with these guys and we love how they let us do whatever we wanted
Enjoy!

A couple of weeks ago, Phil and I photographed a cool little dude, Mason. He just turned 9 months old and is one happy baby, which makes our job easy! Until Phil and I have our own little guy, we will go ahead and give the award for cutest baby ever to him![]()

Mason enjoying his first cookie ever. This is at the beginning when he is still clean…we will just tell you he thoroughly enjoyed it ![]()

This is one of the very few images we have of Mason not smiling, but his expression is priceless!

Earlier this month we had the awesome opportunity to photograph Ken & Lindsey’s wedding in New Orleans at the incredible Oak Alley Plantation. It was so much fun…Ken & Lindsey are the best, not to mention they are both beautiful to photograph. Their wedding had a fun theme of Mardi Gras, but we loved how it was understated. Dawn with Premier W.E.D. did such an incredible job bringing it all together! We have been so excited to share these images, so please enjoy some of our favorites. Click here to register to view all of the images. More to come from our “day after” session with these two in the French Quarter!

This is Ken’s son, Aiden, giving “LaLa” a kiss…he’s so stinkin’ cute!

Last but not least, two of our absolute favorites![]()

We were so excited to photograph Brian & Marie’s wedding last month, not only because we love them, but because it was finally the kick-off to our 2009 wedding season! Brian is a fellow member of The Nobility, which you may recognize from this wedding. It’s always fun photographing a wedding with people we have photographed before. The wedding was held in East Nashville. We love weddings in this part of town…the churches are historic and beautiful. If you are a bride and wanting Scarritt-Bennett but either can’t afford it or your date is already booked, seriously look in this part of town.
After the ceremony, we all headed to the Rymer Gallery for the reception. This is also an insanely cool spot for a reception that I had never even heard of. It was a playground for photographers…. all the crazy artwork served as really cool backdrops for shots, and the place is all white, which is perfect for photography. Anyways, take a look at some of our favorites below and click here to register to view the entire event![]()

Purple is going to be big this year! It is so great to have a little color to work with. (Brian’s socks were a wedding surprise for Marie.)

After we shot the bridal party shots James Bond Brian was able to jump in the mustang, save the world from destruction, capture an evil madman, and still make it back in time for his wedding.

Brian watching his wife walk down the aisle to him.

Here is a shot of Marie’s cool purple flats, and a shot of her using them to walk down the aisle!

Brian doing the “Happy Wedding Day” Dance! I believe we were discussing ABBA when he decided to break it down.

You might recognize this hot couple! We shot Stephen & Amanda’s wedding a few months ago. This photo cracks us up. Stephen is halfway between a gangsta “what-up” and some sort of religious pose. Which one? You decide.

I am not positive but I am pretty sure that the man in the middle of these two ladies is getting a “double gooseing” right now (hence the faces!)

This $36,000 painting made a very nice background. If anyone remembers the artist’s name please leave it in the comments below so I can link to him/her.

This was so awesome! Brian & Marie sneaked upstairs to check out the art and spontaneously broke out in dance, their first dance in fact. I am glad Mindy was able to grab this image, it might be my favorite from the night (can’t sneak one by her!)

We wrapped up the night with cool shot of The Nobility (Brian plays drums) and a drive away in the red mustang.

Thanks again to Brian & Marie, we truly were honored to be a part of your wedding day. We hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed making them!
A few weeks ago Dawn with Premier W.E.D. asked us to photograph a private 40th birthday party she was planning. Of course we jumped at the chance to work with her again, since it is always a great experience
The party was so fun, but since it was a private party, we decided to only blog some of the cute details that Dawn put together (& a cute one of Dawn hard at work!). The theme was Auburn and I love it was carried throughout every little detail.

A few weeks ago we got the fantastic opportunity to mooch off of our dear friends, the McLellans, and hang out at their condo in Orange Beach, AL with some of our favorite people…who just happen to be wedding photographers as well
The trip was a blast, but since it was windy and dreary and we weren’t doing much hanging out at the beach, we decided to end the trip the right way by having an impromptu photo shoot. The boys had tennis in mind so we went to Target to buy some sweat bands. It started out just being a shoot of the boys, but of course the girls found some mini-stuffed dogs and it took off from there. What can I say…the boys definitely have the comedy down and aren’t a bit shy to ham it up in front of the camera, but hopefully you can appreciate the girl’s tacky outfits just as much even though we are a little more camera shy! So, below check out what Phil and I shot and you can check out everyone else’s images here: the McLellan’s, the Carlson’s & the Scott’s. (you might have to search on their blogs a little…they were a little quicker about getting up their shots…oh well, what can I say, we were in New Orleans shooting a wedding!) Note: We love taking the post processing to the limit and trying new ideas on these images considering they are just for fun. Let us know what you think!
This first one is probably the funniest. Peter was totally goofing off acting like some sort of extreme photographer getting shots of the girls while in the kiddy pool. Also, Peter was left out of the “HUGE GRAPHIC NAME BEHIND YOU IN THE PICTURE” thing from the last wedding photographer trip so we thought we’d hook him up in this post. Peter is also new to twitter so be sure to follow him if you haven’t already, his twitter id is in the right photo below (and here)

Here is Mindy doing her best blue-steel and then cracking up about it. Her theme was pink I guess.

This one of Sean cracked us up. It looks like he is playing hacky-sac or something. No, the tennis ball is not a product of Photoshop.

It looks like Chris is reading the text on the ground in this one!

Phil playing the tennis racket ukulele.

Okay, I know we already did a “BIG GRAPHIC WORDS BEHIND THE PERSON” image of Peter but I just couldn’t resist on this one.

The grand finale!

There are a few more of the girls to come in upcoming posts…so check back!
As we promised here are some more images from our engagement session with Ken & Lindsey
We shot some around downtown and also had access to a really cool condo at sunset! These guys definitely wanted to include a little “Nashville” in their engagement session since they are getting married in New Orleans this weekend! We are getting ready to pack up and head that way tomorrow to shoot their wedding and then a fun “day after” session with them in the French Quarter. We are like two kids before Disneyworld right now. For now, enjoy these images and we promise there is much more to come of these two after this weekend!

We posted pictures from Amanda & Stephen’s wedding a while back and it was a great experience. We put together a video slideshow of their wedding pictures, which is hosted on the Phindy Studio’s Wedding Photography site, but we wanted to share these fun photos with everyone on the blog.
See the Amanda & Stephan’s wedding video on Youtube.
Monday morning we woke up to a great surprise…Phindy Studios was featured twice on The Bride’s Cafe! The owner of The Bride’s Cafe, Janie, is awesome. She has worked really hard to make such an elegant & beautiful wedding blog. It is such a great resource for brides to get ideas for their big day. We are extremely honored to have been featured and can’t wait to do more with Janie in the future! Click here & here to check them out![]()
We’re back with another one of our favorite Nashville Wedding Vendors…A Delightful Day Event Planning! Mary Alice & her staff are awesome and we are super excited to be working with them this year. We always know that the weddings they plan will be beautiful and well organized. Phil and I love how they think outside of the box. The Delightful Day girls are always out looking for what is new and fresh and it shows in their weddings. We are also huge fans of their website and blog…you can even check out a fun feature/interview they did on us here. If you are looking for a great coordinator, make sure to check them out!

See other wedding vendors in Nashville we love!
Sorry for the quiet blog over the last week. We have a good excuse! We were in Phoenix for the DWF Convention. It was such an awesome week and we were so lucky to have so many great friends to share the trip with. We learned so much and are even more pumped up than we ever thought possible about 2009. We didn’t get to shoot a ton while we were out there, but it was Phoenix, 75 degrees and insanely beautiful, so we managed to sneak away a couple of times. Here are some fun images we took throughout the week. Enjoy!

Click on the image below to see a larger version of this cool panoramic Phil shot.

Chris Scott

Whitney bringin’ it.

Me and Whitney taking a picture of something that is not blog appropriate
Let’s just say there is a rock that is shaped like something that rhymes with rock.

Whitney, Mindy and Adrian. (what am I doing with my mouth?)

Below is a group shot of everyone from Nashville that came to DWF (minus Chris who was having fun singing karaoke) – Mindy, Phil, Angela Disrud, Mary Claire Crow, Andrea Hallgren, Sean & Mel McClellan, Adrian Hitt, and our roomies for the week Peter & Whitney Carlson.

Over the past year we have fallen in love with Ashley’s Bride Guide. Ashley has the 411 on all things wedding in Nashville. If you are a bride-to-be, you have to check out her site. Yesterday we were honored to be featured on her site as a vendor spotlight. You can check it out here. Stay tuned for other fun Phindy spotlights on ABG (that’s what you call it if you are cool). We’ll keep you posted!

Did we say November’ish? Psych! Of course these things never go according to plan, but we are excited to start 2009 with our new brand! Thornton-Photo is now (drum roll please …) Phindy Studios. Isn’t that a much prettier name? Along with launching our new brand, we have a brand-spankin’ new website and blog. (They’re awesome and major props to Phil for designing them. They are beautiful!
I could sit and look at them all day)
Some of you might be wondering: “Hey, why the change, I liked Thornton-Photo!” Well, it really was a culmination of several factors that made us decide to change the name and brand of our company. The first reason was that we like to consider our images and style to be unique and our name really did not reflect that. There are about a million “Thornton Photos” out there and we wanted to stand out! Another reason was that our domain name (thornton-photo.com) was not all we wanted it to be. Because of all of those other studios using similar names we had to adopt that dreaded dash (-) in our domain name which really just made things complicated for our visitors. We also felt like we have come a long way since we started this business all those years ago and we kind of “outgrew” our old brand. So, there it is, the reason our blog has been quiet for the last few months. Along with our new look we plan to make some fundamental improvements to our business, one of which is more blogging! With a swanky new blog like this how could we not?
Quick Tour: Okay, so you may notice a few new items here on the blog so let me point out some of them.
- Twitter Feeds! Up top in the bar above the most recent post you will see two areas for live updates of our twitter feeds. For those of you who don’t know what twitter is, it’s basically a service that lets you post status updates, a lot like facebook’s status. We can post these “tweets” from our iphones so you can know exactly what we are up to whenever you check the blog (why anyone would WANT to know that much about us we are not sure but we love twittering)
- Slideshow/Proof Links! Inside some posts you will see two gray boxes with links in them (see this post for an example) these links are there so that we can send you to relative info about that post. For instance, if the post is about a wedding and we have made a slideshow for that wedding you can just click that purdy little link to go straight to it! Or, if you want to purchase prints or view proofs from the event you can follow that link directly to the event at Pictage (our online lab partner.) Sweetness.
- Easier Comments! Comments are now “inline” with the post so you can quickly view and JOIN IN on the conversation! We love comments so keep them coming

We know a post just isn’t complete without some killer photos for you guys to look at so this time we are including some new portraits we had made of us! And boy, are they AMAZING! Our good friend and super talented photographer Joy Marie took these almost 2 months ago for us but we were saving them for the new launch. Ironic as it may seem we both HATE getting our picture taken but like any great photographer, Joy made it a fun experience and we love how these turned out.
Side note: A very special thanks to all of our 2008 clients. You guys made it our best year yet! We already have some incredible clients to shoot in 2009 and can’t wait to see what else this year holds for us. Anyways, take a second to look around our new site and blog. Let us know what you think!
xoxo
Phil & Mindy (can you guess how we came up with Phindy?)

Our blog has been a little quiet lately and it will be for the next week or so. However, we are not being lazy or have nothing going on. Quite the opposite. We have some HUGE plans for November’ish, so keep checking back for our big announcement. We shot some beautiful bridal portraits of Amanda that we have been dying to blog and will be able to, finally, on the 25th…her wedding day
We’re also super excited to shoot Amanda & Stephen’s wedding next Saturday, so we’ll have those images soon as well. Anyways, we are still here so keep checking in with us! For now, since this blog was so boring, enjoy one of the greatest videos of all time:
Gotta love dancing puppets.
A few months ago we went to Disney World for our summer vacation. Yes, we went to Disney World and don’t have any kids
Anyways, while we were there we went to Disney Quest and made our own virtual roller coaster. We named it the Jolly Trolley. I am still so proud of that name. So, after you design your coaster, you get to ride it. They put you in this barrel contraption, strap you in and tell you to try not to throw up. Of course, they videotaped the entire thing. We thought it was pretty stupid & funny. Kick back and enjoy laughing at us for a few minutes. (By the way, the geniuses that edited the tape didn’t cut it off but just looped it again and again, so you can stop around 2min. 30sec. mark)
Roller Coaster! from Phil Thornton on Vimeo.
Our good friend, David, opened up his own deli a few weeks ago in East Nashville. It’s called Mitchell Delicatessen and is located in the heart of Englewood. The deli specializes in all natural meats and cheese which features handmade sandwiches and fresh soups. They also offer fresh fruits and veggies from local farmers. David has always been a great chef. We are always excited when he invites us over to eat one of his delicious hamburgers. We’re now so happy that we can go and get food from David anytime! For more info click here .
Here are a few photos to show you around the place
(Oh yeah and big props to Phil who designed his beautiful logo!)

Phil turned the big 2-8 last Monday. We all headed out to Hendersonville, TN to play outdoor laser tag last Saturday. It was a blast. These pictures were all taken with a little point and shoot, so of course, they’re not perfect, but they were too funny not to share.

This is my Dad, Leroy, enjoying the batting cages.

Then we all headed out to the fields for some laser tag. As you can see we can’t decide if we’re suppose to look tough or happy.

The Thornton Men. Phil’s brother Greg, his Dad Harry, and Phil. Sure it’s all smiles now, but 5 minutes before hand they were at war!

Someone suggested that we do a Charlie’s Angels pose. So, my dad and brother, Scott, jumped in. My dad’s face cracks me up. He’s a happy angel.

Abby and Nathaniel. Again…act tough or happy??

Then we all headed to eat at Steamboat Bills. We were extremely exhausted from running around all day. Phil was so excited, he got a pair of Heely’s (the rollerskate shoes) and an ipod (finally!!) I’m sure he’ll blog more about those later. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with us!
-Mindy
Two years ago today, Phil and I got married. It was the best day of my life. Just wanted to share a couple of my favorite memories from that day.
Love you Phil, thanks for being my husband!
-Mindy
p.s. Shout out to Alison Bynum , who we were lucky enough to have as our wedding photographer. She’s really amazing and I’m so thankful she was there with us!

We’re really behind on our blogging. We got back from Cozumel over a week ago, but still wanted to share some shots. We had a blast and went scuba diving for the first time “officially”. We are hooked. If you’ve been thinking about picking up this hobby, you definitely should. We can’t wait to do it again.
Our Highlights: Sea turtles, lobsters, eels, baracudas, sharks, sting rays and much more. It was awesome!

Well we traveled to Vortex Springs in Florida and managed to pass all of our tests and training. We are officially certified open water divers. Its actually a lot more to it than you may think.
The water was a balmy 68 degrees and the outside temp was around 50 so we pretty much hated every minute of it until we actually did our dives, went down about 50 feet into a cavern, was pretty sweet, fed some fresh water eels some cheeze whiz. Rock on.
Cozumel this spring!! 5 Days of Diving!! In WARM water!
You might have noticed we added a new header image to the site (currently “phour phils”). We will be rotating these out frequently as we get new pictures we want to share with you all. One day you may even be able to scroll through them and view different images (if I can talk Greg into codeing it for me). Anyway, we will also be makeing some new post this week showing everyone some recent happenings that nobody has seen yet… ooooo, i bet you can’t wait to see! Big shout out to Greg for all his help with this blog (even while he was having fun in vegas).
