Nashville Engagement Session – Adam & Mallory

We are so excited to photograph Adam & Mallory’s wedding next month! Until we get a chance to share their beautiful wedding images, check out these fun engagement images Phil captured with these two in downtown Nashville. Love a couple with great smiles!:)

Blake & Emma Nashville Engagement Photography

I remember when we first met this super cool couple. They came in for our initial consultation and it was one of those that just clicked! We had so much fun just hanging out and talking that I am pretty sure our first meeting lasted twice as long as most! We loved these guys from the beginning and I remember saying, “they were cool, I hope they book!” to Mindy when they walked out the door. Well, we were lucky enough to snag this couple and we are super glad we did! You can honestly see how much fun they have with each other in their images. We walked around downtown Nashville and had some fun grabbing some shots then ended with the obligatory Titans jersey shot on the walking bridge. Blake & Emma also get bonus points for being so patient as they were the first couple we worked with after having our baby and they were very understanding! Check out a few from their engagement session below. Wedding pics coming soon!

Franklin Engagement Session – Steven & Megan

Phil had a blast wandering around downtown Franklin with Steven & Megan for their beautiful engaement session! They are such a sweet couple and we can’t wait to shoot their wedding next month at Carnton Plantation…enjoy a few of our favorites from their session:)

Nashville Engagement Session – Tom & Alyxe {part 2}

You might remember Tom & Alyxe from their Franklin engagement session we did back in December.  They also wanted to have some fun images in a more urban setting, so we had another session with them in downtown Nashville.  It’s so fun photographing these two…they are up for anything!  Enjoy a few of our favorites:)

We had so much fun with Tom & Alyxe on their engagement session! We completely lucked out and had a beautiful 60 degree day to shoot on last month. Enjoy a few of our favorites!

Nashville Engagement Session – Josh & Katie

We are so excited for Josh & Katie’s wedding next April! We had so much fun shooting around Steeplechase with them prior to the holidays…despite the freezing cold, they kept smiling and we love the results. Enjoy a few of our favorites!

Kentucky Engagement Session – Bryan & Rachel

We had so much fun hanging out with Bryan & Rachel for their engagement session around Centre College in Danville, KY! They were troopers braving the cold and we love the outcome. Bryan & Rachel, we are looking forward to your wedding next June…enjoy your sneak peek!:)

Nashville Engagement Session – Byron & Ling

We had so much fun photographing Byron & Ling around Vanderbilt University, where Byron is a student. They are such a sweet couple! We were honored to be able to capture this time in their lives. We are sad that we will be missing their wedding in China, but I’m sure it will be beautiful! Enjoy!

Sag Harbor Engagement Session – Bryan & Julia

Last month we had the pleasure of shooting a beautiful wedding in the Hamptons. We flew into New York and met up with Bryan & Julia in Sag Harbor, one of the coolest towns we’ve been to in a while! Sag Harbor has a little bit of that “New England” feel to it and seemed like a great community. We didn’t have long to to spend with Bryan & Julia for their engagement session, because they were headed back to the Hamptons for a clam bake on the beach with their friends and family.  However, we did manage to spend a little time exploring Sag Harbor and found some great spots to shoot. Here are a few of our favorite shots from our session. We loved working with Bryan & Julia…they are such a great couple!

The next two shots had both of us cracking up! I mentioned to Bryan that I was loving the “Symmetry” of the bridge in these shots so he proceeded to help out with some fun poses. Loved them!

Franklin Engagement Photography – Wes & Erin

We had a blast hanging out at Carnton Plantation with Wes & Erin and then heading to their new home to take a few shots with their adorable Corgi.  They are such a sweet & fun couple and we can’t wait for their beautiful Spring wedding next year at Belle Meade Plantation.  Enjoy a few of our favorites.:)

Matt & Hilary Engagement Session, Kentucky Style!

We had a blast shooting around Princeton, KY with Matt & Hilary last month.  Princeton is the cutest town and we were so lucky to get to shoot around the world famous Newsom’s Country Ham store.  These two are amazingly talented, both a part of the President’s Own Marine Band.  Needless to say, when we saw the video below of Matt playing with Elvis Costello for the President, we were pretty blown away.  No big deal, right?;) Anyways, these two have been such a joy to work with and we can’t wait to share their wedding in the coming weeks.  For now, enjoy a few of our favorites of this beautiful couple.

Nashville Engagement Session – Lars & Laura

What can I say…we absolutely adore Lars & Laura!  We’ve had the privilege to get to know this couple over the past year and love how creative & fun they are.  We shot their engagement session all over Nashville, a couple weeks prior to their beautiful wedding (which we are excited to share soon!).  We had a blast with these two.  Enjoy a few of our favorites!

Franklin, TN Engagement Session – Scott & Leigh Anne

We are so excited to finally share Scott & Leigh Anne’s engagement session. We photographed their session just a couple weeks prior to their wedding earlier this month and it was so much fun getting to know them a little better! We will be posting a sneak peek of their beautiful wedding at Sycamore Springs in the coming weeks, but for now enjoy a few from their session.:)

Nashville Engagement Session – Jeff & Lauren

We had so much fun wandering around downtown Nashville with Jeff & Lauren! These two like to laugh, which always makes sessions even that more enjoyable.:)We can’t wait for their wedding in August at the Country Music Hall of Fame with A Delightful Day. Enjoy a few of our favorites!

Eric & Melissa’s Franklin Engagement Session – Part 2

As promised, here are a few more images from our session with Eric & Melissa. These shots, however, were all taken with a medium format film camera. We just love the look and feel of larger format film.  We think they look pretty awesome on the blog, but you should see these prints enlarged.  :) There really is no replacing the look of film…there is just something about it. Hope you enjoy!

Eric & Melissa’s Franklin Engagement Session – Part I

We had so much fun shooting the beautiful Eric & Melissa around historic Franklin, TN a few weeks ago.   We are absolutely giddy about these images…these two are so in love and made our job easy!  We had a a blast trying some new locations and experimenting with some fun new gear (part II coming next week!).   Enjoy a few of our favoites.:)

Franklin Engagement Session – Jesse & Beth

We had so much fun wandering around downtown Franklin with Jesse & Beth. These two are so sweet and we had a blast spending the afternoon with them. We absolutely adore their senses of humor which definitely shined through in their images. Jesse & Beth, we can’t wait for your beautiful June wedding. Enjoy your sneak peek!

Nashville Engagement Session – Stark & Kelly

We are so excited to be photographing Stark & Kelly’s wedding next month!  These two met each other in downtown Nashville, so what better place to shoot their engagement session.  We had fun wandering around with these two and love the outcome.  Enjoy!

Nashville Engagement Session – Michael & Eileen

Michael & Eileen are the sweetest.  We are so grateful for the wonderful clients that we are getting to work with in 2011 and we were excited to kick off engagement session season with these two!  Lucky for us, they were willing to brave the freezing cold and snow.  I love the wintry feel to these images.  Michael & Eileen, thanks for being so great!  Can’t wait for your sunny & warm wedding next May!  Enjoy a few of our favorites:)

Franklin,TN Engagement Photography – John & Amy

We were so happy when we met John & Amy in downtown Franklin a few weeks back and still found some beautiful fall leaves to use as a backdrop for some of their images!   These guys were in town from Seattle and that was their only request.:) We are super excited to photograph their wedding next May at Cedarwood.  We know it’s going to be a beautiful day!

Nashville Engagement Session – Harmit & Sraddha

We are so excited for Harmit & Sraddha’s wedding coming up in November!  How good looking are these two?!?  They came into town a few weeks back and we got to have some fun with them around downtown.  Enjoy a few of our favorites!  :)

Adib & Ramona -Nashville Engagement Photography

I don’t know if you are ready for these images. I’ll be honest. This couple is pretty hot. If you have heart problems or are pregnant please refrain from looking too closely at these images as they may cause light-headiness and tunnel vision! But seriously, we love Ramona & Adib.  They made this session so fun and easy.  :)  We can’t wait to shoot their wedding later this month. Enjoy some of our favorites from their stylish downtown engagement session!

Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Wedding Photography Nashville – Trace & Danielle

We are so excited to photograph Trace & Danielle’s wedding next Fall at Land Between the Lakes!  For their engagement session they wanted a country inspired session to match their wedding.  We headed out and were psyched when we found an old barn to play around in.  These guys were awesome and braved the nature with us to get some great shots.  Enjoy a few of our favorites!

Nashville Engagement Session – Alex & Amy

Alex & Amy were married this past Saturday in a beautiful ceremony at The Temple in Belle Meade. We can’t wait to post a sneak peek in a couple weeks! Until then, enjoy a few of our favorites from their engagement session, also taken at The Temple.  It’s such a beautiful place inside & out.

Alex is a tall man, in case you couldn’t tell.  He was a good sport & let us have a little fun with it:)

Nashville Engagement Session – Ronnie & Nicole

We have been so impressed lately with the couples who have been willing to brave the freezing temperatures this winter!  Ronnie & Nicole were troopers & super fun to work with.  They are both avid runners & chose to go to Edwin Warner Park for their session.  They run here frequently and it was great to have their session in a place that had meaning to them.  Even though it was a little rainy, I love the mood that it gives their images.  Let’s hope though for a beautiful sun-shiney day for their wedding next May at CJ’s Off the Square! Enjoy a few of our favorites:)

Right off the bat we could tell that Ronnie was hysterical & loved to make Nicole laugh…here’s proof.

Engagement Session Nashville – Tami and Brent

Sorry if the blog has been a little sporadic lately.  We are still recovering and catching up from our Europe trip.  And yes, don’t worry, Europe pictures are coming soon…we promise!  In the meantime you can check out this lovely couple! Tami & Brent are friends with Amanda Williams (who’s wedding will be blogged soon!) and we are so glad we get to shoot their upcoming wedding too:)  We hit a ton of fun locations for their session.  We had so much fun that we stayed pretty late into the night, risking injury for some cool night time road shots.  Thanks Tami & Brent for being so willing and brave!  After our shoot we grabbed a bite to eat on Broadway and had a great time discussing their wedding. Tami also has an awesome blog where you can read some fun insights on being a bride.  Check it out at http://littlemisssouthern.blogspot.com/ Here are just a few of our favorites.  Enjoy!

This time next week, Casey & Laura will be married!  We are super excited for these two.  Not only are they awesome clients, but they are also awesome wedding photographers (& wear awesome sneakers)!  They are Lovely Union out of Tupelo, MS.  We’re honored to be photographing the wedding of such talented people.  And we get to top it off with a fun trip to Tupelo next week!  More to come from their wedding & “day after” session…for now check out a few of our favorites from their engagement session:)

Nashville Engagement Photography – Chad & Amanda

Chad & Amanda are the sweetest couple.  When you spend time with them, you can really tell how much they adore each other.  They are currently living in Mississippi, so we were excited that they were able to make it up for their engagement session.  We had fun shooting around downtown and even came across some air ducts…score!  We are looking forward to their wedding in October with the fabulous team at A Delightful Day.  Until then, enjoy a few of our favorites:)

Lebanon Engagement Photography – Casey & Ryan

A few weeks ago we packed up the gear and headed out to Lebanon for a summer sun style super sweet engagement session with Casey & Ryan.  One of the coolest things about being wedding photographers is when the couple is willing and able to try anything you can throw at them.  We get our favorite shots this way.  Notice the huge dump truck we came across.  We said, “hey, wouldn’t it be cool if you guys could get inside that thing?” and sure enough, after moving some cars around to climb on, Casey & Ryan were up there, looking good.  We also found this really cool hay bailer feeding ring thingy (I don’t think that’s the technical name) and we love those shots.  Check them out!  Leave us some comment love if you have a second, we love hearing what you think!

Nashville Engagement Session – Amy & Mario

I’ve known Amy & Mario since high school…that’s right folks, we were band nerds together.  We lost touch and thanks to Facebook, we all found each other again!  I was so excited to hear that these two were finally engaged and getting married.  I was even more excited when they wanted to meet us about photographing their wedding.  I’m so happy to get to be apart of this special time with them.  Enjoy a few of our favorites from their session!

Nashville Engagement Session – Ken & Lindsey

’tis the season for engagement sessions!  We had a blast photographing Ken & Lindsey today.  We were so excited about the images that we decided to give a sneak peek of their sneak peek:)  More to come in the next week but for now check out one of our favorites from today.  Aren’t they smokin’ hot?!?   I heart this photo and her shoes!  (by the way, I know I use too many exclamation marks.  I’m working on expanding my punctuation)….oh and did I mention we are shooting their wedding in New Orleans in a couple of weeks with Dawn of Premier W.E.D.?   We are over the moon excited about this one!

Nashville Engagement Photography – Robin & Stephen

The first thing Robin & Stephen asked when we started discussing their engagement session was: “can we bring the dogs”? The answer was of course a YES! Mindy and I are huge dog (and cat) lovers so we couldn’t wait to meet their pets. We decided on Steeplechase for a fun, casual outdoor shoot and we couldn’t have been any luckier with the weather. It was an awesome 70 degree sunny afternoon and the dogs were LOVING IT! Sometimes pets can be a little tricky to photograph but these dogs made our job easy and we grabbed some great shots. We also talked Robin and Stephen into a couple session while the dogs waited patiently as mom & dad were photographed. Check out the killer “baby blues” Robin is packing! We can’t wait until we get to shoot her bridals at Cheekwood next month, she’s going to be a knock-out. As always we had a lot of fun and look forward to their wedding. Check out some photos from the session below!

We got a ton of feedback about the huge lettered names on our Phoenix images so I thought I would do one for each of our engagement sessions just for fun:)What do you think?

Brian & Marie – Engagement Session

A long time ago, we met a guy named Brian.  A couple years later, Brian met Marie.  Way before they were even engaged, Phil and I were secretly hoping they’d get married so we could shoot their wedding.   We knew they’d do something super cool and of course they haven’t let us down.   We cannot wait to shoot their East Nashville wedding next month.   We are always looking for new, fun places to shoot and they are having their reception in an art gallery!  Oh, it’ll be sweet!  Anyhoo, back to their engagement session.  Phil and I really love to make our engagement sessions about our client’s personalities.   So before every session we always ask the couple “what do you guys like to do?”.  In Brian & Marie’s case it was “play UNO” & “Swing!”.  So there you have it…our inspiration behind these images.  Enjoy:)

New Name, New Site, New Blog!

Did we say November’ish?  Psych!  Of course these things never go according to plan, but we are excited to start 2009 with our new brand!  Thornton-Photo is now (drum roll please …) Phindy Studios. Isn’t that a much prettier name?   Along with launching our new brand, we have a brand-spankin’ new website and blog.  (They’re awesome and major props to Phil for designing them.  They are beautiful! :)I could sit and look at them all day)

Some of you might be wondering:  “Hey, why the change, I liked Thornton-Photo!”  Well, it really was a culmination of several factors that made us decide to change the name and brand of our company.  The first reason was that we like to consider our images and style to be unique and our name really did not reflect that.  There are about a million “Thornton Photos” out there and we wanted to stand out!  Another reason was that our domain name (thornton-photo.com) was not all we wanted it to be.  Because of all of those other studios using similar names we had to adopt that dreaded dash (-) in our domain name which really just made things complicated for our visitors.  We also felt like we have come a long way since we started this business all those years ago and we kind of “outgrew” our old brand.  So, there it is, the reason our blog has been quiet for the last few months.  Along with our new look we plan to make some fundamental improvements to our business, one of which is more blogging!  With a swanky new blog like this how could we not?

Quick Tour:  Okay, so you may notice a few new items here on the blog so let me point out some of them.

  1. Twitter Feeds! Up top in the bar above the most recent post you will see two areas for live updates of our twitter feeds.  For those of you who don’t know what twitter is, it’s basically a service that lets you post status updates, a lot like facebook’s status.  We can post these “tweets” from our iphones so you can know exactly what we are up to whenever you check the blog (why anyone would WANT to know that much about us we are not sure but we love twittering)
  2. Slideshow/Proof Links! Inside some posts you will see two gray boxes with links in them (see this post for an example) these links are there so that we can send you to relative info about that post.  For instance, if the post is about a wedding and we have made a slideshow for that wedding you can just click that purdy little link to go straight to it!  Or, if you want to purchase prints or view proofs from the event you can follow that link directly to the event at Pictage (our online lab partner.) Sweetness.
  3. Easier Comments! Comments are now “inline” with the post so you can quickly view and JOIN IN on the conversation!  We love comments so keep them coming:)

We know a post just isn’t complete without some killer photos for you guys to look at so this time we are including some new portraits we had made of us!  And boy, are they AMAZING!  Our good friend and super talented photographer Joy Marie took these almost 2 months ago for us but we were saving them for the new launch.  Ironic as it may seem we both HATE getting our picture taken but like any great photographer, Joy made it a fun experience and we love how these turned out.

Side note: A very special thanks to all of our 2008 clients.  You guys made it our best year yet!  We already have some incredible clients to shoot in 2009 and can’t wait to see what else this year holds for us.   Anyways, take a second to look around our new site and blog.  Let us know what you think!

xoxo

Vendors We Love!

Well, even though it is almost Thanksgiving and we are somewhat winding down for the holiday season, we are staying busy meeting with fun new vendors.  We will be spotlighting a few vendors over the next month and wanted to kick it off with wedding coordinator extraordinaire, Kristin Carolan of Simply Stunning Events.  We are super excited to be working with Kristen on Jessica & T.J.’s wedding next year.   It’s always great to work with an excellent coordinator.  They make the wedding day go so much smoother, not to mention all the stress they alleviate before the wedding.  We highly recommend you check out Kristin if you are in the market for a great coordinator:)

Seth & Laura’s Wedding – July 11, 2008

Seth & Laura were married on July 11th. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding in Waverly, TN at the Humphreys County Museum & Civil War Fort. Everyone was in good spirits and we got some great outdoor shots despite the extreme heat. Props to the guys who toughed it out in suits! All in all it was a great day and we couldn’t have asked for better sunlight to work with. Seth & Laura, it was truly an honor to photograph your wedding. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you guys. Enjoy this sneak peek!

Beautiful couple, beautiful light.

Cool ring shot on Laura’s grandmother’s window seal. (sorry that’s a ton of possessive apostrophes)

Laura and her sisters looking G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S;)

Loved the groomsmen’s ties.

Can you believe this grooms cake?!? Yes, it’s a cake, not a real camera. It is by far the coolest we have ever seen and I’m sure ever will see.

Pretty dress details.

Love the flare in the first picture of Laura and her Dad.

Fabulous wedding cake by Billie’s Sugarworks. The orchids used on the cake were so pretty.

Stephen & Amanda – Engagement Session

Here are a few more shots of the lovely couple Stephen & Amanda. I posted one of these in a sneak peak a couple of posts back but here is the whole enchilada. We had a great time with this shoot. We started in the late afternoon and went on all the way until after 9pm! Our first location was Centennial Park then we drove downtown to the pedestrian bridge. Our last stop was in front of the Sommet Center to try some long exposure night photography. After our lengthy session we were all starving so we drove over to the new Five Guys burger place on Broadway (delicious). Looking forward to shooting their wedding in October!
